Recitation after the Imam

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Reciting along with the imam while he is reciting aloud is an objectionable act that contradicts the Qur’an and Sunnah and the practice of the majority of the Companions.”

He also said:

“As for pausing after reciting al-Fatiha, Imam Ahmad does not consider it recommended, just as Imam Malik, Abu Hanifa, and the majority of scholars do not recommend that the imam pause to allow the congregation to recite al-Fatiha. This is because, according to their view, the recitation of al-Fatiha by the congregation when the imam is reciting aloud is neither obligatory nor recommended; rather, it is prohibited.”

قال شيخ الإسلام أبن تيمية رحمه الله:

القراءة مع جهر الإمام منكر مخالف للكتاب والسنة وما كان عليه عامة الصحابة.

وقال رحمه الله:

‏وأما السكوت عقيب الفاتحة فلا يستحبه أحمد كما لا يستحبه مالك وأبو حنيفة والجمهور لا يستحبون أن يسكت الإمام ليقرأ المأموم؛ وذلك أن قراءة المأموم عندهم إذا جهر الإمام ليست بواجبة ولا مستحبة بل هي منهي عنها
